Important Update for Canadian Student Visa Applicants (SDS Route)
Starting August 10, 2023, there’s a major change in the English language proficiency requirements for students applying for a Canadian study visa under the Student Direct Stream (SDS).
Now, students are only required to achieve an overall IELTS Academic band score of 6.0 — the mandatory 6.0 band in each individual skill (Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking) is no longer required.
This update, announced by IDP, simplifies the process for many aspiring international students.
However, please note:
If you’re applying with IELTS General Training, the 6.0 band in each skill still remains mandatory.
Before August 10, students needed a minimum of 6.0 bands in each module of IELTS Academic. That has now changed!
